Run Downs
With pitchers working on pick off drills, runners should allow themselves to get picked off. A perfectly executed run down will consist of one throw and a tag. Let's consider a runner on first. When the first baseman catches the ball, he runs at the runner at full speed, holding the ball in his throwing hand, ready to throw it. The shortstop advances towards the runner and calls for the ball when he's approximately ten feet away. A runner can not stop and reverse direction in a timely fashion and will be tagged out.
