Crow Hop

The purpose of the crow hop is to put the outfielder in the proper throwing position as quickly as possible after fielding the ball, with the added benefit of giving him some momentum toward his target. This is a controlled movement and should not be rushed.

When the outfielder charges the ball, he should position himself so that the ball is fielded on his glove side with his glove side foot forward. After catching the ball, the trailing leg initiates the crow hop. This is done by kicking it up and forward, passing in front of the other leg. At that same time, point your lead shoulder and hip toward the target. The combination of these actions will properly align your body for the throw.

Outfielders should always throw the ball to the cut-off man. This gives infielders the opportunity to cut the ball off, if necessary, in order to avoid any runners from advancing.
